About Me
My name is Kimberly Harpe, and I am a certified life coach with a passion for creativity and its place within society.
Harpe Creative Mentoring and Coaching believes that creativity is a skill that can be learned, developed, and applied not only to creative projects but to everyday life as well.
You ARE Creative
Contrary to popular belief, creativity isn’t just about art. Creativity is seeing things differently, exploring possibilities, applying a unique touch to the way we present things. Creativity is in the way we choose to look at things, the way we communicate, the way we problem solve, and so much more.
Creativity is not limited to the established painters, writers, dancers, photographers, artists, etc., it’s in the engineers, the mechanics, and architects. It’s in the production assistants predicting needs and meeting them before they’re even noticed. It’s in the teachers reaching the students who take in information differently, in the babysitters that find fun ways to get the kids to eat their vegetables, and the receptionists, bartenders, and bouncers who de-escalate conflict through conversation!
Creativity is all around us, it’s within all of us, and I’m here to show you how to harness it for the enrichment of your everyday life.
What is Harpe Creative Mentoring and Coaching
For too long, creative souls have been boxed in.
Boxed into stereotypes of what creativity looks like, boxed into misconceived notions of where creativity can be applied, and boxed into how much room a person can expect to have in their everyday lives for their creative endeavours.
No More.
It’s time for our definition of creativity to broaden, for it to change in a way that empowers us in our every day lives.
It’s also time that those who fall under its currently accepted definition allow themselves the validation we all deserve to be able to extend to ourself.
For too long, these creative souls have been discouraged from pursuing their interests as viable options in favour of more normalized career paths. Projects have been deemed hobbies to be done during free time, and more socially acceptable jobs have been prioritized to the point of leaving little to no time or energy for those passions.
What’s more, society has emphasized an expectation that creators show an immediate aptitude for their interests, when it should have been teaching us that creativity is a skill that can be honed and improved upon.
Here at Harpe Creative Mentoring and Coaching, I strive to help you shift away from this programming and its resulting self-doubt.
I want to help you see exactly what you’re capable of achieving so long as you have a passion for the project. Your creative soul has a story to tell, and it doesn’t care whether you’re good at spelling and grammar or not, after all… that’s what editors are for!
So Why Me, and Why This?
My whole life I’ve sought comfort in various forms of my creativity, particularly in my writing. In 2016, a new friend saw in me potential as a writer that she took upon herself to foster by challenging me (with a fair bit of effort on her part) to do NaNoWriMo. It was through the months of preparation leading up to this experience that I discovered and developed new methods of organizing my ideas and plots, that I might not have otherwise ever accomplished. It was as a result of her belief in me, and in her pushing me to develop my skills and pursue them, that I was able to write my first two manuscripts, and plot several more books to the series I am currently working on.
A few years ago, two individuals I’d met through friends revealed to me that they had ideas for books they thought could be really great, but that they didn’t believe they could write themselves for various reasons. I saw this as my chance to do what my friend had once done for me. I soon learned that I had an aptitude for helping others stifle their self-doubt and organize their ideas, and it was one of those wonderful individuals that told me I should be pursuing it as a career.
Then, in 2020, just as the pandemic was hitting Canada, my health took a turn for the worse, and I discovered first hand how complex a mind can be and how it can work against our ability to focus and achieve our goals. I learned what it was like to have my body no longer cooperating with me, and I learned what it was like to battle an enemy that lived within my own skin, within my head.
With mysterious neurological issues that brought with them chronic headaches and migraines, I quickly learned how difficult it could be navigating a world that wasn’t designed for varying needs in mind.
Now, I want to help others discover the depths of the passions they don’t know how to explore, and to see how far they can take them, regardless of their divergences, or their physical or mental limitations.
While my business is beginning in a virtual capacity, my dream is to someday create a physical retreat for anyone who possesses within them a creative soul and a desire to explore it.
